Our biggest dance in education project to date with The Co-op Academies Trust in Greater Manchester, showcases the importance of the arts in schools.
This month has seen the launch of our third major dance project with The Co-op Academies Trust. Our biggest education project to date, the project has involved Chameleon taking dance into five Greater Manchester Secondary Academies to develop a unique choreography which reflects the Co-op’s company values and ways of being.
Working collaboratively with the Company and our Co-Artistic Director, Kevin, each of the five academies have worked over an intensive period to create a choreography, which will be performed for Co-op staff at One Angel Square, the Co-operative Group’s landmark headquarters in Central Manchester.
Our Learning & Participation Officer, Sam Broadbent, said: “The collaboration has been a great opportunity for young people across five different schools in Greater Manchester to be brought together through a shared dance experience. The project continues our partnership with the Co-op and demonstrates our shared passion for developing young people as creative and critical thinkers through dance and movement.”
Mrs Moran, a teacher a from the Co-op Academy Failsworth said, “The workshops were fantastic, the students got so much out of the two days and the Company were brilliant to work with and really pushed the students to develop as dancers.”
Ms Peavoy, a teacher at the Co-op Academy Manchester, added, “It was great to see the Year 9s performing to such a high standard and with confidence. It was humbling to see. You and your team have clearly done a fantastic job with them!”
The culminating performance on Monday 20 May will showcase the creativity and talent of the young people involved and celebrate why arts in education are so important to the trust.
Sam Broadbent said, ”It has been wonderful to work with so many Co-op Academy pupils and staff who have all worked so hard throughout this unique and collaborative process. Everyone at Company Chameleon is so proud of the finished work and are looking forward to watching the young people perform. A special thank you to Frank Norris, Director of the Co-op Academies Trust for his continued support and for understanding the value of the work we do here at Company Chameleon.”
