Connecting from a distance

30 May 2020

Company Chameleon and Z-arts are teaming up for a brand-new project, exploring the effects of lockdown on our mental health and wellbeing.

Coinciding with Mental Health Awareness Week, the organisations have launched a call out to people to help tell the project’s story, by sharing their experiences, thoughts and feelings on life in lockdown, and how social distancing and self-isolation has affected their lives and mental health.

To capture responses, Chameleon and Z-arts are asking people to get lost in their creativity, to explore and share how they’re feeling. This might involve writing a poem, a story, drawing a picture or creating a dance.

Together the accounts will underpin the narrative of a new duet choreographed by Company Chameleon and so, presents a chance for people to have their voice heard in a new creation.

The duet will form part of a new Manchester schools project, which will include performances and workshops exploring how changes in our lives can impact upon our mental health, and how we can express ourselves through creative dance and the wider arts.

What is your lockdown story?

Company Chameleon and Z-arts would love to hear more about your experiences, feelings and thoughts on living in lockdown.

Send your responses on email to nicola@companychameleon.com or share on social media using the hashtag #lockdownstories, tagging Company Chameleon and Z-arts.

This is one of 40 new projects taking place in and around 40 arts centres as part of Here and Now, a national and local celebration of culture within communities. Supported by Arts Council England and Future Arts Centres, marking the National Lottery’s 25th birthday.
