The Wonder of Dance continues!

1 June 2020

Welcome to your dance lowdown for June!

As our studio remains closed for now, this month, we’ll continue to share the wonder of dance in an online programme for you to enjoy from home.

Here’s the lowdown on what to look out for and to help you stay connected through dance.

Chameleon Recommends
Mondays: 1 – 29 June
On Mondays, don’t miss Chameleon Recommends, a new series of shout outs on social, highlighting our picks of online content to check out from the local and national dance community. First pick is vogue-based dance film, Full House, directed by Jasmine Calland and featuring our very own Amber Calland. Watch it on BBC Arts as part of the New Creatives Series .

Challenge Tuesdays
Tuesdays: 9 June – 7 July
After the success of the first Challenge Tuesdays series and some amazing responses shared by you from home, we bring you another set of weekly challenges inspired by Chameleon’s dancers and past works.  Get imaginative and get innovative through dance and movement on your own, with friends or with your family! Look out for the challenges on social.

Digital Pro Class
Throughout June
Our full Digital Pro Class series is now live on our YouTube channel. With eight quality classes to choose from, the advanced classes with our Company Dancers, Juliana and Dave, are a relaxed yet challenging way to develop your practice from your own living room.  We’ll be pulling out highlights from the classes and sharing them on social throughout the month. You can dip into the series anytime on YouTube for free here.

Theatre Thursdays series #2
Thursdays: 4 June – 2 July
This month, Theatre Thursdays returns for another series but this time we’re handing the platform over to the professional dance artists of Greater Manchester!

Every Thursday, we will be shining a light on the wonderful work that is being born out of the region and inviting audiences to celebrate the very best of dance from Greater Manchester. The series begins this week with Damae Dance and a focus on their beautiful duet IRMà(pictured).

Family Fridays
Throughout June
Last month, Kevin and his mini Chameleon’s invited you and your children to move together for Family Fridays. This month, it’s over to YOU! We want you to create your own family friendly phrases and partner dances, inspired by Chameleon’s movement style and contact work. Remember to tag us so we can see.  For inspiration, the full series is available to view on our YouTube page throughout June here.

The Saturday Sessions
Throughout June
Join Amber and our Company Dancers for our fun, physical and interactive programme of dance classes for children and young people. The five themed classes present the perfect opportunity for young people to get moving and explore their creativity through dance from home.  We’ll be pulling our highlights from the classes and sharing them on social throughout June. You can dip into the series anytime on our YouTube channel for free here.

Sunday Reads
Sundays: 7 – 28 June
Immersing you in the world of dance theatre, our Sunday Reads series continues.  Each week, we’ll be inviting you to enjoy a blast from the past as we look back on news, touring and performance highlights, and take you behind the scenes of our productions.

We hope this month’s programme uplifts, entertains, makes you think and makes you feel. Connect on social media and tell us what you think. If you’ve not yet subscribed to our YouTube channel, we’d love you to do so – click here and sign up.
