Void into Autumn

30 September 2022

As we head into October, in true Chameleon style, we perform Void in three very different settings, beginning on World Mental Health Day on Monday 10 October. Our Danish debut performance is happening too!

COVID-19 is one of the biggest global crisis seen in generations. The impact lives on, including the impact on people’s mental health.  Void, choreographed by Kevin Edward Turner (watch the trailer below), explores the space created by Covid and the pandemic, and what has moved into that space – both good and bad.

The dance and movement responds to the thoughts and feelings of the dance artists and a group of young people in Manchester. Their experiences and reflections on Covid and lockdown.

There’s a rich tapestry of emotions and reactions in there, expressed through a rainbow of different dance styles. The piece takes you on a journey and invites you to reflect and process your own thoughts and feelings about an extraordinary space in time.

In October, coinciding with World Mental Health Day on Monday 10th, Chameleon performs Void in three different settings, which includes a debut performance in Denmark.

Alongside the performances, the Company is leading movement workshops inspired by Void and the themes within the work.

Our Co-Artistic Director, Kevin, said, “I feel totally inspired to be taking Void into such different contexts in October, highlighting the adaptability of our work as Chameleons!

It’s exciting to be representing the UK and to be performing in front of new audiences at the To The Moon festival in Denmark.

It feels wonderful to strengthen our partnership with Arc in Stockport and kick off our next adult workshop series with a performance of Void at Stockport Art Gallery.

In Rochdale, we take Void into a school, which shows our commitment to taking high quality dance to young people in educational settings to inspire the next generation of artists!

By presenting Void in these different contexts, I hope the performances and workshops raise awareness and spark many different conversations around the impact of the pandemic and how it impacted each of us and our mental health.”

The October touring calendar for Void includes:

Mon 10 Oct: World Mental Health Day: workshop and performance at Matthew Moss High School in Rochdale.

Thu 13 Oct: workshop and performance at Stockport Art Gallery. Presented in partnership with Arc, Stockport, as part of Stockport Arts & Health Week. More here.

Sat 15 & Sun 16 Oct: performance at To The Moon International Festival in Denmark.  More here.
