Chameleon Youth Try-Outs: Q & A

1 June 2016

“A unique opportunity to be part of the Chameleon family”, we catch up with Natalie Davies, our Learning & Participation Officer, ahead of the first ever Try-Outs for Chameleon Youth, our new youth dance company, this Saturday.

Q.1. What are the Try-Outs?

This is essentially the selection day for Chameleon Youth, and an opportunity to show us how much you want to be a part of this great new dance company for Manchester.  Be sure to bring along bags of enthusiasm and creativity, and a fearless ‘have a go’ attitude!

Q.2. What will the Try-Outs involve?

You’ll start the session with a quick warm-up to make sure you’re working safely.  There’ll then be the opportunity to learn some Chameleon movement material, before having a chance to experiment with some of your own ideas and create something unique to you.

Q.3. What are you looking for at the Try-Outs?

What’s really important to us is not the amount of dance training you’ve already had, but that you’re not afraid of hard work and breaking out a sweat, or of falling over and picking yourself back up again.

Q.4. Why should young dancers come along?

Chameleon Youth is a unique opportunity to be a part of the Chameleon family, and these Try-Outs will be the only opportunity to join this year!  Our aim is to support your dance aspirations whatever they may be, and to ensure you have the best level of training to develop into a confident skilled and creative performer. We hope Chameleon Youth will encourage and inspire the next generation of North-West dance artists!

Led by our co-founders, Anthony Missen and Kevin Edward Turner, this Saturday’s Try-Outs are workshop sessions from which the first ever youth company members will be selected.

If selected at the Try-Outs, Chameleon Youth dancers will commit to being a part of the company for one year and given the opportunity to take part in an exceptional programme of classes, work with a professional touring company and perform at a variety of both indoor and outdoor venues.
