Chameleon Youth

Chameleon Youth, Manchester’s youth dance company, is calling out for new members for 2022/23!

We’re excited to announce that this year’s Chameleon Youth Open Audition will take place on Tue 20 Sep (Seniors) & Mon 26 Sep (Juniors) at Chameleon Studios.

If you’re age 11 to 21 (Juniors 11-16 / Seniors 16-21), this is an incredible opportunity to be part of a dance company that’s inspiring and different to the mainstream.

Launched in 2016 by Company Chameleon, members of the youth company learn directly from a professional dance company, which for over a decade, has performed across the world giving new meaning to dance and movement.

As a member of Chameleon Youth, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Train weekly with Company Chameleon’s professional dance artists.
  • Create work collaboratively with guest choreographers.
  • Grow your individuality as a young dance artist.
  • Perform throughout the year at high profile theatres and outdoor festivals and events.

Whether you’re new to dance or you have tons of experience, Chameleon Youth’s programme has something unique to offer.

Our nurturing and supportive working environment encourages young people to find their creative voice through dance and movement.

Additionally, Chameleon Youth is unique – it is the only youth dance company in the region to be part of a professional dance company, which means dancers are taught by professionals with substantial experience of performing worldwide and working in the national and international dance sector. Through Chameleon Youth, we pass on this knowledge and experience to create a unique youth dance offer.

Along with performance opportunities such as U.Dance at The Lowry and No Limit at Phoenix Dance Theatre, previously, Chameleon Youth have created and performed curtain raiser performances for Company Chameleon’s professional company and Emergence Dance Company. Other performances this year include; Manchester Day Parade, Green Space Dark Skies mass movement project and Wigan Youth Dance Festival.

Watch Chameleon Youth perform  in ‘And Then We Emerged’, a dance film choreographed and created as part of the Chameleon Youth Summer Intensive last year. Watch here.

Being part of Chameleon Youth is inspiring, creative and fun!

Don’t just take our word for it…

Caitlin joined Chameleon Youth Seniors in 2021 and is now going to on to train at London Contemporary Dance School…

“Being a part of Chameleon Youth has been a wonderful experience where I really feel like I’ve developed as a dancer and person. You are part of a youth company that is affiliated with the professional company which gives you a whole range of opportunities you can’t find anywhere else; watch the company’s performances, learn Chameleon’s own style of dance; being taught by the professional dancers; as well as countless workshops you can take part in.

At Chameleon, the teachers are dedicated to you and take interest in you as an individual, I’ve never been part of a youth company that has been so inspired and engaged by the environment that the teachers create.

The teachers come from different backgrounds in the professional dance world, which means they can offer great advice to you about further dance training and education, as well as just being there for a friendly chat.

The teachers have been part of the reason I have chosen to carry on my dance training. They helped me prepare for auditions and applications at the London Contemporary Dance School.

We are always given opportunities to get involved with outside of the Company and to name a few: informed about dance training in the CAT scheme and National Youth Dance Company and one dance UK and being part of community projects and performances. I couldn’t recommend it more: do it!!”
