This August for one week only, Company Chameleon, Big People Music and TASC invited 25 local young people age 6 to 16 into our Openshaw studios to take part in a unique free project, fusing dance, music and architecture.
Funded by Arts Council England, Chameleon collaborated with TASC (The Architecture School for Children) and Big People Music to deliver the sold-out summer school , which offered young people the opportunity to work with professional artists, dancers and musicians to develop their creative skills across the different art forms.
A collaborative performance was shared with families and friends on the final day and received fantastic feedback from those who attended and from the young people who took part.
Speaking about PlayLab, Learning and Participation Manager Sam Broadbent said:
“The project was a wonderful opportunity to engage with young people in our local community. It was a pleasure to invite them into the space and see them work so positively together across dance, music and architecture.
It was the first time some of these young people had ever experienced these art forms or performed in front of an audience and we were very proud to see PlayLab come together in the way that it did. We hope that the legacy of this project sees the young people continue their interest in dance, music and art, and that they will continue to engage with opportunities at our Openshaw Studios!”
