Lisa Ziemann is currently working with Company Chameleon as part of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD) Apprenticeship Scheme. One of the twelve performers in the cast of The Shadow, we go behind the scenes and talk to Lisa about her Apprenticeship so far and the making of our new production.

1 | Lisa, you are already into your third month with us here at Chameleon! What has been your favourite moment so far?
That’s such a hard question! Something that has stuck with me is seeing all six generations of Apprentices come together during our first week. It was such a special moment for everyone to come together and see the range of things people are up to after their time here at Chameleon. In terms of being in the studio, learning rep from Amaranthine with Theo and Juliana was so much fun. Getting to see how the company train during a summer tour has also been really insightful!
2 | How have you found The Shadow creation experience so far?
It’s been pretty mentally challenging as well as physically. We’ve been looking into a lot of really uncomfortable parts of ourselves, so stepping into that zone and out of our comfort zone has been really eye opening. Because of the intense nature of some of the questions we’re asking each other, it feels like the cast has bonded really quickly and we’re all comfortable in our own spaces with a lot of the tasks. This helps massively with what we’re creating and I hope the audience see and take this away with them after watching the performance.
3 | What have you found the most challenging?
We’ve been working really heavily with the theory side of the concept, investing time into understanding Carl Jung’s theory, which took me some time to get my head around, but it’s incredibly interesting. Applying it to the creation feels like a challenging experience and maybe one I won’t get to experience again, so just trying to soak it all up!
4 | What are you looking forward to the most with The Shadow creation?
I’m really excited to see what it looks like when it all finally comes together with the rest of ‘the shadows’ from Edge Hill and Bath Spa University. I’m most excited about sharing the stage with the Company Chameleon team and getting to experience a big production on tour. Seeing new venues and how new audiences react will be really exciting!
