Dancing across Greater Manchester

20 January 2020

Next month, we continue our Greater Manchester tour with a programme of free opportunities to see our mesmerising outdoor dance piece, Amaranthine.

If you live in Salford, Tameside, Oldham and Leigh, you can catch us dance on your doorstep on the following dates.

Salford: Sat 8 Feb, 12pm & 1pm, Walkden Town Centre
Tameside: Sat 15 Feb, 11:30am, Ashton Market
Oldham: Fri 21 Feb, 7:30pm, Gallery Oldham as part of Illuminate Light Festival
Leigh: Wed 26 Feb, 11:45am, Leigh Town Hall Square as part of Wigan Borough Dance Festival

The dance piece, which toured to festivals in Spain and Romania last summer, is a male-female duet, which follows a couple in conflict as they desperately try to re-connect.

Combining a rich mix of dance styles, the movement is both powerful and risk taking, drawing from an amalgamation of dance techniques including contemporary dance, b-boying, capoeira and partner work.

The February tour dates follow on from performances in Bolton, Manchester, Rochdale and Trafford last year, which reached an audience of over 650 people, and saw Chameleon perform in town halls, museums, libraries and shopping centres.

Workshops are also part of the tour activity and have so far introduced toddlers, older adults, an all women’s group and a boys with disability football group, to Chameleon’s fun and accessible dance style.

The Greater Manchester tour will culminate with performances and workshops in Stockport and Bury in the Spring, tour dates to be announced.

The programme is supported by Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Arts Council England.
