Chameleon Youth, Manchester’s youth dance company, is back and calling out for new members for 2020/21!
We’re excited to announce that this year’s Chameleon Youth Audition will take place on Sunday 1 November 2020 at Chameleon Studios.
If you’re age 11 to 21 (Juniors 11-16 / Seniors 16-21), this is an incredible opportunity to be part of a dance company that’s inspiring and different to the mainstream.
Launched in 2016 by Company Chameleon, members of the youth company learn directly from a professional dance company, which for over a decade, has performed across the world giving new meaning to dance and movement.
As a member of Chameleon Youth, you’ll have the opportunity to:
Eugene Griffin was part of Chameleon Youth from 2018 to 2020, he said, “After training with Chameleon Youth for two years, I auditioned for different drama schools around the country. I am now starting a Musical Theatre course at Arts Ed in London to carry on my training. Chameleon Youth created a great environment where I felt supported technically and creatively with training. It was a taster into a professional environment with amazing opportunities such as performing at The Lowry and The Manchester Arena.”
Chameleon Youth also helped Matthew Carroll (Chameleon Youth Seniors, 2019-20) gain the experience he needed to take the next step in his dance career. Matthew said, “I’m currently on route to a renowned dance school in Northern London, London Studio Centre, where I will be training intensively for three years. Thanks to the incredible education given from Chameleon Youth, I have developed important disciplinary skills which will help me excel within my career within the dance industry. Chameleon Youth has allowed me to develop my talents, giving me various opportunities to push myself to be an exceptional artist within the industry. I am incredibly thankful to the team at Chameleon for their incredible training programme.”
Now in its fifth year, Chameleon Youth’s programme has something unique to offer. Our nurturing and supportive working environment encourages young people to find their creative voice through dance and movement.
Additionally, Chameleon Youth is the only youth dance company in the region to be part of a professional dance company, which means dancers are taught by professionals with substantial experience of performing worldwide and working in the national and international dance sector. Through Chameleon Youth, we pass on this knowledge and experience to create a unique youth dance offer.
Along with past performance opportunities as part of U.Dance at The Lowry and the Yorkshire Youth Dance Platform at Phoenix Dance Theatre, last year, Chameleon Youth created and performed the curtain raiser at the world premiere of Chameleon’s new theatre production, The Shadow, performed at HOME in Manchester. From the rehearsal process and dress rehearsal to the performance itself, the experience gave everyone involved invaluable insight into life as a professional dancer.
Sam Broadbent, Learning & Participation Manager, said: “It’s been a challenging year and we have really missed working with young people both within and outside of our studios, but we’re delighted to finally announce the audition for this year’s Chameleon Youth and we can’t wait to welcome young people back into our wonderful space.
The absence of delivering dance, in all sorts of settings has only made us more passionate about what we do and reaffirmed just how powerful and important dance can be. We’re really looking forward to kicking off our return to the studio with the return of Chameleon Youth”.
