As we go on tour with The Shadow, choreographed by Anthony Missen, we meet the cast and introduce you to our amazing dancers via bite-size Q&As and videos.
Next in line is the super talented Kadafi Mulula, who is currently working with Chameleon as an Apprentice as part of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance scheme.
Hey Kadafi, hope you’re enjoying rehearsals with The Shadow. We’d love for you to tell our readers more about you and your dance background.
Hello! I’m a self-taught versatile dancer with a background in hip-hop and acrobatics. I grew up in Leeds, where my high school teachers supported and encouraged me to dance as they saw potential in my skills. I’ve undertaken contemporary and ballet training at De Montford University and currently very much enjoying working with Company Chameleon in an apprenticeship role.
What are you finding most challenging in rehearsing for a touring show?
The most challenging thing about rehearsing is definitely the need to keep focused and locked on at all times, whilst also being patient because the first time running will never be your best. In addition, I’ve also found it hard spotting different cues from specific moments to either the music or the other dancers’ movements. It’s a learning curve but I’m loving it!
Make us smile! Tell us about a favourite moment from the process so far.
If I’m going to be honest my favourite moment of the process is just being within the process itself. For me it’s a dream come true already. Delivering such a beautiful and powerful piece, with such a wide range of amazing talented human beings. Like what more could you ask!
