Meet the cast: David

11 May 2022

As we tour The Shadow, choreographed by Anthony Missen, this Spring, we meet the cast and introduce you to our amazing dancers via bite-size Q&As and videos. In this one of the series, we invite you to say ‘hi’ to our Company Dancer, David Colley.

————————————————————-

Hey Dave, tell our readers about your dance background.

Originally from Southampton, I moved to Manchester back in 2015 after graduating from London Contemporary Dance School.

I joined Chameleon as an Apprentice Dancer and since shifted from role to role. I am now a full time Company Dancer, a role which I very much enjoy.

The Shadow explores our shadow selves and the darker side to our personality. Tell us about the character you’re portraying in the show.

The character I’m portraying in The Shadow is an interesting one – there is a lot for me to chew on when we perform.

He struggles observing the other characters indulge freely in their innermost desires and becomes fixated on a destructive and insular pursuit of happiness.

It’s not until after he has monstrously pushed situations to the absolute extreme, that he comes to terms with himself and his own innermost desires which he does so quietly but with confidence.

Tell us about a favourite moment from the process so far.

The best part of the process this time round with The Shadow has to be the show at The Place in London.

Getting to take a work like this back to my old school was an awful lot of fun and meant a lot to me.

All of us piling into a giant air b&b in the middle of London was also pretty hilarious – turns out you shouldn’t put malt loaf in the microwave!
