13 December 2022Company Chameleon is offering the exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Company Dancer and three Freelance Dance Artists to join our team. We particularly welcome applications from global majority dancers.
Audition Notice: Apprentice Company Dancer
The Apprentice Company Dancer will join the Company on a two-year paid apprenticeship programme starting in July 2023.
We’re looking for dancers, age 21+, who are passionate about the artform and who can demonstrate a high level of commitment to their dance training and development so far, having completed a degree or equivalent.
As a core member of the creative team, you will:
- Take part in the Company’s weekly training programme
- Rehearse and perform in Company repertoire at theatres, events and festivals
- Support the Artistic Directors in the choreographic and creative development of a wide range of projects
- Actively engage in the delivery of our learning and participation programme
Whilst the role will primarily be working at the Company’s home base of Openshaw in Manchester, the successful candidate will also tour nationally and internationally throughout the year – locations will vary depending on the Company’s touring schedule and projects that are taking place.
We particularly welcome black, Asian and ethnically diverse applicants because these groups are currently under-represented in the dance workforce.
Salary: £16,000-£17,500 per annum dependent upon age.
Audition Notice: Freelance Dance Artists
Company Chameleon is looking for three Freelance Dance Artists to be part of the cast of Refuse, a new work created by our Co-Artistic Director, Kevin Edward Turner, and Chameleon’s most ambitious outdoor choreography to date.
Breakers, street and hip-hop dancers are warmly encouraged to apply along with contemporary dance artists.
You may have received training from a recognised school or conservatoire, although this is not essential. What is more important is that you have strong performance experience, and a familiarity and openness to different choreographic approaches, dance and movement techniques.
The artists will be part of the creation period for two months in March and April 2023 and will perform on tour in Greater Manchester in June 2023. Follow on performances and tour dates will take place and are to be confirmed.

Salary: £500 per week.
