Our Co-Artistic Director, Kevin, has been appointed as the Choreographer and Movement Director on Miracle on 34th Street, this year’s Christmas show at HOME in Manchester.
Kevin will bring magic to the moves in the musical version of the classical tale, which features songs including, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas.
“I’ve worked as a movement director on plays,” says Kevin, “but I’ve never worked on a musical before so it will be a new experience for me. I feel like I have all the skills to make a success of it, but a musical is new territory. I love a challenge and being involved in projects that will push and stretch me. I expect it will be intense, enjoyable and solution focused.”
Talking about how he is preparing for the role, Kevin says, “We’ve had a research and development period for script reading, understanding the play, and the framing by the director. I’m intrigued to see how I can weave my creativity and artistry into the creative process. Being involved in a creative process with new artists and collaborators is really exciting, and I know I will learn a lot from everyone involved.”
The rehearsal and production schedule for the show takes place Monday through to Saturday over a six week period. Kevin won’t be needed for all the rehearsals, as a portion of the development time will involve evolving his ideas.
Kevin explains,”The lion share of my time will involve developing and prepping the choreography, some of which I’ll work through on my own. I’ll then deliver and teach the material to the artists, and then of course, work with the director to further shape the movement, and achieve their vision for the production.”
Miracle on 34th Street opens first week of December. Make the show part of your festive plans this Christmas and check out Kev’s choreography in the show! Tickets are now on sale: book early to avoid disappointment.
