Chameleon Youth – Philip’s story.

27 May 2025

In the countdown to this year’s Chameleon Youth audition on Sunday 13 July, we catch up with Philip about his dance journey with Chameleon Youth, and what being part of the youth company has given him

1) Hey Philip, how old are you and where are you from?
Hi, I’m 18 and I’m from Gorton in Manchester.

2)What made you want to be a part of Chameleon Youth?
I joined Chameleon Youth back in 2021. I didn’t think I was at the level to join a youth dance company but my high school teacher persuaded me to give it a go as she saw the potential in me.

3) What do you enjoy most about Chameleon Youth and what has it given you?
I enjoy the community feel – it feels like a family! Without the support of my fellow dancers at Chameleon Youth I would not be the person I am today.

4) Can you describe a favourite memory from your time as a member of Chameleon Youth?
My favourite memories would have to be be travelling to London as a company in January 2024 to perform at Woolwich Works alongside professional company, New Movement Collective.

5) What are you off to do next?
I’m off to Northern School of Contemporary Dance in September to study for a BA Hons in Contemporary Dance.

6) Why would you recommend auditioning for Chameleon Youth to a friend?
Chameleon Youth opens so many new doors for you. The company take you in and show you so many different aspects that the dance world has to offer. Chameleon Youth is more than just dance, it shapes who you are.
