Since Chameleon formed in 2007, the Company have been powerful advocates for the importance of boy’s dance in Greater Manchester and beyond. Company Chameleon have a wealth of experience delivering boys dance projects, working in schools, youth and community settings, Pupil Referral Unit’s, prisons and more. We also regularly offer CPD training for Teachers and Dance Practitioners with a focus on how to better engage boys in dance activity.
An example of our previous boy’s dance project work is STRIDE. Presented by Dance Manchester in partnership with Company Chameleon, STRIDE was an annual performance project which aimed to get young men from across the region dancing. Since its launch back in 2009, this project introduced thousands of young men, aged 10-20, to dance and invited boys from across the region to perform in venues such as Victoria Baths, Royal Exchange Theatre and The Whitworth Art Gallery.
Speaking of STRIDE, Dance Manchester said: “The project brought together local young males & introduced them to dance as a high-quality art form, giving the participants the space to explore their own creativity & physicality. For most of the boys, it was the first time they have engaged with dance & performance art – with many having danced for the first time at our school outreach stage, just 2 months prior to the performances”.
