Company Chameleon presents
Open Level Adult Class
A fun and physical contemporary dance class for adults.
Whether you want to reignite your passion for dance, reconnect with your body through movement or simply enjoy a fun and energising workout, our adult dance class offers something for everyone.
Led by Chameleon Artists, Carlos Oliveira, Lydia Horne and JP Hon, Adult Class offers a friendly introduction to contemporary dance.
Along with developing your dance skills and feeling good through movement, you’ll learn the fundamentals of contemporary dance practice with a focus on technique, vocabulary and phrases.
There are four parts to class. You can expect:
Warm-up: Class begins warming up your body for movement. Expect stretching exercises for flexibility, cardiovascular exercises to increase your heart rate and movement to align and ground your body.
Foundational Techniques: We’ll introduce you to the different techniques that form the foundation of the practice, which draw from a rich mix of movement styles. Expect to learn movement vocabulary and explore basic techniques such as releases, spirals and floor work.
Learning Choreographic Phrases: You’ll learn choreographic phrases – think dance sequences or routines. From simple movement combinations to more complex phrases that challenge coordination and musicality, expect your creativity to be fired-up through movement.
Cool-down: Cool-down involves gentle movement, stretching and breathing to help you leave class feeling calm and positive in mind and body.

About Adult Class
Two years ago, Adult Class was launched by one of our fantastic Chameleons, Sara Marques, who grew the group into the welcoming and inclusive community it is now. Sara wanted to extend her love of dance to adults – including people who had never danced before, people returning to dance after a break, or retired dancers wanting to maintain their practice. Sara’s legacy continues today as Carlos Oliveira takes over as Lead Facilitator, welcoming adults from a range of dance backgrounds to come together to share their love of contemporary dance.
About Carlos Oliveira
Carlos Oliveira is a Manchester-based dance artist, performer, choreographer and facilitator.
Originally from Porto, Portugal, Carlos trained in contemporary dance at Balleteatro Professional School before moving to the UK, where he graduated from Northern Ballet School with a National Diploma in Professional Dance. He later completed a Master’s in Dance: Performance and Professional Practices at the University of Salford.
Carlos has worked extensively as a performer, collaborating with artists and companies including Company Chameleon, Tavaziva Dance, Joss Arnott Dance, Coalesce Dance Theatre, Balleteatro Contemporâneo do Porto, That Ribeiro Company and many others. His performance career has taken him across contemporary dance, theatre, outdoor performance and several community-focused dance projects.
He’s also worked as a rehearsal director and assistant choreographer alongside Company Chameleon Artistic Director, Kevin Turner MBE.
Carlos is passionate about sharing dance with others and has extensive experience teaching and facilitating movement with children, young people and adults. He enjoys creating spaces where people can explore movement, creativity and self-expression.
“It feels like a real privilege to be stepping into this role following Sara’s departure. Adult Class is an opportunity for people to come together and enjoy dance and its benefits, and I’m really excited to build on the foundation Sara has created while bringing my own energy, creativity and approach to the class.”
Carlos believes that movement can have a positive impact on how we feel, both physically and mentally. His aim is for everyone to leave the studio feeling energised and positive, carrying that feeling with them beyond the studio.
The class combines contemporary technique, movement exploration, choreography and movement driven creative tasks. It’s a chance to switch off, connect with yourself and others, and simply enjoy moving.
